Iranian poet commemorated in Turkish capital

Ankara, Oct 25, IRNA – Many Iranian and Turkish artlovers, including university professors gathered together in Turkish capital city of Ankara to commemorate the 30th death anniversary of Iranian contemporary poet Shahriar.

“Iran and Turkey have much in common, but the two countries’ literature have had interactions with each other,” said Iran’s cultural attaché to Turkey Mahmoud Sedqi-Zadeh.

“Many works of Iranian great poets like Saadi, Ferdowsi, Hafez, and Rumi have been translated to Turkish as well as Turkish books that have been translated to Persian,” he added.

Sedqi-Zadeh stressed that Shahriar tested most of the poetry styles but his sonnets are of high quality in contemporary Persian literature.

Turkish university professor Adnan Karaismailoğlu also delivered a speech about Shahryar’s poems.

He named metaphor as one of the key characteristics of Shahryar’s poems which indicates his mystical and ethical thouts.

Mohammad-Hossein Behjat Tabrizi, nicknamed as Shahryar, was a renowned Iranian poet who have works in both Persian and Azeri languages.

His ‘Heydar Babaya Salam’ is one of the most famous poetry books written in Azeri and is translated to more than 80 languages.
